The treasurer reported a healthy financial position with a bank balance of £7133.69 and cash of £84.30
It was agreed to leave the subscription at the same level as previously and also to change the 'year' of the Society to September to September. Subscriptions paid in April 2009 will continue until August 2010.
It was agreed to make a donation to the school for the use of the Hall for our Summer Exhibition of £100.
It was agreed that the exhibition had been a great success and discussion took place about the time of the year that our next exhibition should be held. Possible topics for the exhibition were discussed but it was decided to ponder further on the issue.
The website was discussed and ways of improving it suggested, particularly with reference to the uploading of material so as to make the maintenance of the site and adding new material easier. The question of links to our website from the Parish Council was discussed and welcomed. Dick Stainer will explore the issues involved.
The data base for the archive catalogue was discussed and Nicki and Chris Bellers are to investigate the matter to see if improvements could be made.
The possible transfer of previously published material to CD was discussed and it was decided to search the computer storage for suitable material. Roger Hillman will search the archive.
Discussion then took place about possible projects for the future.
John Gadd suggested that we needed to add more material to the website in order to maintain interest.
John Gadd said that his wartime stories could be added along with other articles from the Gossip Tree if appropriate.
Dave Hardiman will produce the next newsletter.
Geoffrey Tapper is going to produce material on the 'Lost Villages'.
Carl Johnston agreed to make a study of the history of Cross House.
Chris Bellers is to work on the history of the brewery.
Roger Hillman will continue to work on the archive and it's data base and work on Family Trees for memorable village families.
It was agreed to look into a group visit to the Dorset History Centre in March 2010.
Dave Hardiman is keen to study the Manor Court records that are available there.
It was also considered that we should attempt to organise a group visit to Pipers Mill, which many members had not visited.
The Society's constitution was discussed and it was agreed that John Gadd would consider the original and bring forward some alterations, if considered necessary.
There was discussion about the possibility of the Society putting some talks together so that we could spread the word by offering ourselves to other groups and villages.
The group was then joined by Bruce and Wendy Niven from Canada (Wendy is a member of the Still family), who expressed their gratitude to the Society for it's work in furthering their search of family connections.
They made a suggestion that we might consider offering Society members as local guides to visitors who are interested in the history of the village. This point was discussed and the suggestion made that over time we could produce "written and photographic guides" for the guides.
In conclusion Dave Hardiman agreed to look into the Somerset and Dorset Family History Society and similar groups in the Blackmore Vale, Sturminster and Stalbridge
