Sir Richard Fitzgerald Glyn inherited two titles: as 4th baronet of Gaunts and 8th baronet of Ewell when the two lines were re-united in the 20th century. Like his father Richard George Glyn (q.v.) he served in the army in South Africa (1899-1902) and in the First World War when he was awarded the DSO and the French Legion of Honour.He was a JP and lived at Cross House until he inherited most of the land and properties in the village from his father (Sir Richard George Glyn) in 1918. In 1926 he sold nearly all his holdings in Fontmell and neighbouring parishes. His children were Richard (later Sir Richard Hamilton Glyn 1907-1980, MP for North Dorset 1957-1970), Gerald, Peter, Joanna and Phillipa.
